At a glance

1Scope and who we are

This Privacy Policy ("Policy") explains how Norbit Studios ("we", "us", "our"), the developer of the mobile application Photo Compressor Lite (the "App"), handles information when you use the App.

The App is a utility that compresses, resizes, and converts photos and related files locally on your device. We do not operate any cloud service for the App, do not require accounts, and do not knowingly receive your photos.

For the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the UK GDPR, where any personal data is processed in connection with the App, the data controller is:

Note that most processing relevant to advertising is performed by Google (see Section 6), which acts as a controller for its own purposes under its own privacy policy.

2Key definitions

TermMeaning in this Policy
AppThe Photo Compressor Lite mobile application.
DeviceThe mobile device (phone or tablet) on which the App is installed.
Local storageStorage on the Device, such as private app storage, the device gallery, or a folder you select.
Personal dataInformation that identifies or could reasonably identify a person, as defined under applicable law (e.g. GDPR Art. 4).
Advertising IDA resettable device identifier provided by the operating system for advertising purposes (Google AAID on Android, IDFA on iOS).
Process / ProcessingAny operation performed on data, e.g. read, store, transform, transmit.

3What the App accesses on your device

The App accesses the following items only on your device and only at moments you initiate an action that requires it:

3.1 Photos and image files you select

When you tap a button such as "Compress to KB", "Batch", or "Folder", the operating system presents its native picker (e.g. the Android Photo Picker on Android 13+). The App reads only the photo(s) or folder you select, in order to perform the requested operation (compression, resizing, format conversion, or archive creation). The original files remain unchanged on your device.

3.2 Output files

When the App produces a result (a compressed image, resized image, converted image, or archive), and you choose to save it, the App writes the output to your device gallery in an album titled "Photo Compressor", or to a folder you select. Output filenames include a descriptive suffix such as compressed_186KB, resized_1080x810, or webp_98KB to help you identify them later.

3.3 Local history

To let you re-open or share recent results without picking files again, the App stores a local history database on your device. Each history entry contains:

The history database is kept on your device only. It is never transmitted off the device. You can clear individual entries or all history at any time from Settings → Storage, or by uninstalling the App.

3.4 App preferences

Your in-app preferences — default quality mode, default output format, theme, history limit, and similar — are stored locally on the device using the operating system's preferences API. These never leave the device.

3.5 Temporary files during processing

While processing an image, the App creates short-lived temporary files in its private cache directory. These are deleted automatically when processing finishes or is cancelled, and the App also sweeps any temporary files older than 24 hours on startup.

4What we do not collect or do

For clarity, we want to state explicitly:

5Device permissions explained

The App requests the minimum set of permissions needed for the features you use. No permission is requested when you simply open the App.

PermissionWhy and when
Photo / media access Used only when you select a photo or save a result. On Android 13 and later, the App uses the system Photo Picker, which does not require broad READ_MEDIA_IMAGES permission.
Storage Access Framework folder access Future versions Used only for the folder you explicitly select via the system directory picker, for batch folder compression. The App does not request MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE and does not scan your wider storage.
Internet Used by the Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) SDK to fetch advertisements. Not used to upload your photos or content.
Camera, Microphone, Location, Contacts, SMS, Notifications Not requested by the App.

6Advertising (Google AdMob)

The App is supported by advertising. Advertisements are served by Google AdMob, a service operated by Google LLC and, in the EEA / UK, Google Ireland Limited.

6.1 What AdMob may collect

Google's AdMob SDK is embedded in the App and may collect and process the following data independently of us, for the purposes set out in Google's privacy policy:

We do not control which specific data Google's AdMob SDK collects. Google's handling of that data is governed by Google's privacy policy, available at https://policies.google.com/privacy. Google's policy specifically for partners can be found at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

6.2 Consent for personalized advertising

In jurisdictions where consent is required by law (including the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland), the App uses Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP) consent SDK to present a consent dialog before any personalized advertising is shown. If you do not consent, you will continue to see ads, but they will not be personalized based on your browsing or app usage.

You can revisit or withdraw your consent at any time from Settings → Privacy → Manage ads consent in the App, where supported.

6.3 Resetting or limiting your Advertising ID

6.4 How we use ads inside the App

We follow our own internal ad UX rules to limit disruption:

8Your rights — EU / EEA / UK

If GDPR or UK GDPR applies to you, you have the following rights regarding personal data we process about you:

Because the App processes your photos locally and we do not maintain an account-based store of your data, in practice most of these rights are exercised by you directly on your device (deleting history, deleting output files, uninstalling). For rights that require our action, please contact us using Section 17.

Ads-related rights: To exercise rights against data Google collects via AdMob, please refer to Google's privacy policy and tools at policies.google.com/privacy.

9Your rights — California (CCPA / CPRA)

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), gives you certain rights regarding personal information that businesses collect about you. We provide the disclosures below.

9.1 Categories of personal information

In the preceding twelve (12) months, the data items handled in connection with the App may include:

Category (Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.140)Handled?Source
Identifiers (e.g. Advertising ID, IP address)Yes, by Google AdMobYour device, via the AdMob SDK
Commercial informationNo
Internet or other electronic network activityLimited — ad interactions onlyYour device, via the AdMob SDK
Geolocation data (approximate, IP-based)Yes, by Google AdMobNetwork
Audio, visual, or similar informationPhotos processed only locally; not collected by usYour device (you initiate)
Biometric informationNo
Sensitive personal informationNo
Inferences drawn from the aboveBy Google for ad personalization, subject to your consentGoogle

9.2 "Sale" and "sharing" of personal information

We do not sell your personal information for money. However, under the CPRA's broad definitions, the use of Google AdMob for personalized advertising may constitute "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. You have the right to opt out of such sharing.

To opt out, you can:

9.3 Your CCPA / CPRA rights

You may submit a verifiable consumer request by contacting us at the address in Section 17. Because we do not hold accounts or persistent records of users, our ability to respond is limited to what is technically possible.

10Your rights — other jurisdictions

Other regions (for example Brazil's LGPD, Canada's PIPEDA, Japan's APPI, South Korea's PIPA, Australia's Privacy Act, Vietnam's PDPD) provide comparable rights, including access, correction, and deletion. We will respond to verifiable requests under any applicable law, consistent with what is technically possible given the App's local-only data model.

11Children's privacy

The App is rated for general audiences and is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction — for example, 16 in parts of the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has provided personal information through the App or its third-party services, please contact us at the address in Section 17 and we will work with you and, where appropriate, the relevant third party to address the issue.

For COPPA-related (US) requests, please use the subject line "COPPA request" when contacting us.

12International data transfers

Because the App processes your photos locally on your device, no international transfer of your content occurs as a result of using the App's core functionality.

Where Google AdMob collects data as described in Section 6, Google may transfer that data internationally, including to the United States, under safeguards described in Google's own privacy policy and contractual terms (which include, where applicable, the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK Addendum).

13Data retention

ItemRetention
Photos you selectRead only during the operation; the App does not retain a copy after processing.
Output files (saved)Stored in your gallery until you delete them; the App does not delete them on your behalf.
Local history entriesStored on your device until you clear them; the App automatically trims to the most recent 100 entries by default (configurable in Settings).
App preferencesStored on your device until you change them or uninstall the App.
Temporary processing filesDeleted immediately after processing or, at the latest, swept on next app start if older than 24 hours.
AdMob dataRetained by Google according to Google's own retention policies.

14Security

Because the App's content data does not leave your device, our security model relies primarily on the operating system's app sandboxing and your device's own security (lock screen, OS updates, etc.). Specifically:

No system is fully immune from compromise. We recommend keeping your device and operating system up to date, and being cautious when granting third-party apps access to the gallery folder used by the App.

15Third-party services

The App integrates the following third-party SDKs and services:

ServicePurposeProvider's policy
Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) Display advertisements policies.google.com/privacy
Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) Collect consent for personalized ads in covered jurisdictions policies.google.com/privacy
Google Play Services Platform-level services on Android (e.g. Advertising ID provider) policies.google.com/privacy

These providers are independent controllers for the data they collect. Their handling of your data is governed by their own policies, linked above.

16Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Effective date" and "Last updated" fields at the top of this page. If a change is material (for example, introducing a new category of data processing), we will, where reasonably possible, notify you through an in-app notice on your next launch.

Your continued use of the App after the effective date of a revised Policy constitutes your acceptance of the revised Policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the App and uninstall it.

Previous versions of this Policy are available on request.
